Positano Bites Deep

In 1953, when John Steinbeck visited Positano he wrote: “Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” And I couldn’t agree with something more.

The Amalfi Coast and Positano specifically are some of my favorite places to visit. This was my third time visiting the beautiful destination and I want to share some recommendations!

Where To Stay: During our most recent visit, we stayed at Villa Celentano - a beautiful villa that is family owned and operated and offers newly built one-room and two-room apartments. All the rooms are tastefully furnished, with panoramic views and equipped with a kitchen, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, refrigerator, air conditioning, and heating. Our room had a stunning and spacious balcony with a table, chairs, and two lounge chairs. Breakfast was included with our stay which was great! We were able to enjoy freshly made cappuccinos, homemade pastries, fruit, eggs, and even a variety of meats like prosciutto and salami.

Where to Eat: There are countless restaurants in Positano. If you’re a seafood lover like myself you’ll be in heaven! Below are some of my favorite places and other great restaurants I’ve had on my list to visit. If there’s a place you definitely want to visit I’d recommend making a reservation!

Pro Tip: If your hotel/air bnb has a kitchen (and especially a balcony) I absolutely recommend cooking at home. There are some really great small grocery stores or ready-made food available and it’s usually very affordable! Plus, there’s just something about cooking your own food, with a view as stunning as this, all while barefoot and in the comfort of your own space.

What to Do:

  • Rent A Boat For The Day

    • I used Click and Boat to book our boat trip. We booked CRANCHI — MEDITERRANEE (2008). It was absolutely incredible! If you’re able to fit this into your budget and schedule I would highly recommend it. Our captain Raimondo was absolutely amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and gracious. We went swimming near Sophia Loren’s home, enjoyed prosecco, visited the town of Amalfi, had lunch in Nerano, and were dropped off in Capri (by our request).

  • Cooking Class

    • I used Viator to book our cooking class. We booked a small group pasta and tiramisu class. Our host’s name was Emily and we had the class in her home (which was absolutely stunning). I loved learning about Emily’s family and their traditions. The food was delicious and I can’t wait to try and re-create it at home in my own kitchen.

  • A Day At The Beach

    • If you’re visiting Positano during the summer months you’ll likely want to take a break from the heat and kick your feet up. As you can imagine, the beach gets busy during this time of year so you’ll want to reserve your chairs ahead of time to ensure you have a spot. Pro Tip: If you don’t order a pizza while lounging at the beach in Positano what are you doing in Italy?

  • Wandering Around The Shops

    • The shopping in Positano (though on the pricey side) is great! Two of my absolute favorite boutiques are Francesca’s and C+B. If you’re looking for beautiful accessories and girly dresses.

  • Enjoy Lemon Granita With A View

    • While visiting the Amalfi Coast, wherever you are, you must try the lemon granita. For those that don’t know, granita is a slushy ice dessert that comes in a variety of sweet, refreshing flavors, such as lemon, melon, peach, nectarine, berry, and coffee. As you drive to Positano you’ll notice several vendors on the side of the road selling fruits and veggies… and of course lemon granita! If you’re able to, I recommend pulling over and purchasing a granita while you take in the spectacular views.
