Moments in Mykonos
Day 1:
To get from Santorini to Mykonos we took the ferry. Little did we know we’d bump into an actual Greek goddess, AKA Shay Mitchell. She was the absolute sweetest and stopped to pose for photos while tourists all around were rushing to get their luggage onto the ferry. After fangirling over the photos we took with her the entire ride there, we finally made it to windy Mykonos.
*Tip: If you’re taking the ferry be sure to be one of the first to get off the boat. When you do, head to the left. When we arrived, there were hardly any taxis there. I’d recommend either having a car scheduled to get you OR download the Aegean Taxi app and request the taxi so you don’t have to waste your vacation time standing in line.
Harbor View
Our Air BnB had THE BEST view of the harbor in all of Mykonos and our incredible host had the world fluffiest puppy named Silky. We couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful place to stay. The rooms were perfect with gorgeous cave bathrooms and mini kitchens. The best part, other than Silky of course? The view! The sun set right in front of our room every night while the water glistened.
Souvlaki Story
When in Greece you must eat a giant plate of gyros, right? I hear it’s a rule there. So, arriving to Mykonos, we did just that. We stumbled upon Souvlaki Story and were seated right away. Looking at the menu, we may or may not have gotten a tad bit carried away but hey, we’re on vacation!
Day 2:
Psarou Beach
Getting to the beaches was actually much easier than I had expected. You can catch buses on the other side of town, for a few euros, and they’ll drop you right along the beaches. They’ll pick you up from the same spot as well. We wanted to make sure we got to the beach bright and early to make sure we had our choice of beds. And to our surprise, we got the best spot on the beach because at 8am, people there are still returning home drunk from partying.
When we arrived to Psarou beach everyone was extremely friendly. We were able to grab two beds and an umbrella on the front row for just 20 euros! The Greeks know how to go to the beach. Rent a bed by the beach all day and be served food and drinks? It’s quite a way to live that’s for sure.
Going out in Mykonos
If you weren’t already aware, nothing in Mykonos closes before 8 am. It can be a slightly dangerous experience for your wallet. A mojito here, a glass of champagne there, oh look, a Gucci bag… yeah, very dangerous. But we somehow managed to survive with minimal financial damage.
We had great fun at both Skandinavian Bar and Queen of Mykonos Champagne and Cocktail Bar.
Day 3:
Paradise Beach
It was time for another magnificent Greek beach day and we ended up in Paradise. Literally, the name of the beach is Paradise Beach. We were greeted by fun paintings on the walls and one of the most extensive beach bars I have ever seen. We grabbed our beds and made ourselves comfortable for the day. And yes, we did have two giant pizzas in bikinis on the beach.
Sunsets in Mykonos
Galleraki bar is one of the most incredible places to watch the sunset in Mykonos. You have the ocean right in front of you and the windmills to your left. All you have to do is sit back, enjoy your cocktail, and relish as the golden sun rays fall into the sea.
Little Venice
If you want really, really, really incredible food that isn’t overly touristy, go to Little Venice. This small neighborhood is located slightly further from the more popular roads, close to the water but it’s where we found our favorite restaurant, Nikos. Great wine, great food, great prices! You can’t lose here. The first night we got a Greek sample appetizer and salmon lasagna. The next night we had to go back for grilled octopus salad, the Greek pasta, and of course, gyros.
Mykonos, like Santorini is stunning. You willingly get lost in the winding roads, taking in the beauty of the island. And when you stumble back on to the main roads, you’re amongst an energy unlike any other city I’ve ever visited before. I love a world where your days revolve around admiring the sunsets and enjoying the company of your loved ones. Dancing the night away, enjoying luxuries like champagne and shopping until 8 am and tasting some of the most amazing fresh food. It’s definitely something I could get used to.
Oh yeah... couldn't forget about the crepes and waffles too...(P.S. We ate these at 3am)
