Boston: Brunch at Southie's Coppersmith

Now-a-days brunching on the weekends has turned into an art form. Scheduling time with your girlfriends and boyfriends on the weekends can be extremely hard. I know my friends and I struggle to find a time that doesn’t take away for anyone’s workout schedule; whether it be barre or boxing, while balancing the fundamental Netflix binge sessions and occasional window shopping in Boston’s Back Bay.

When we finally find a time that works for everyone, the search for the restaurant begins. Typically the Wednesday or Thursday before is filled with notifications from Facebook messenger of different places we might want to try. Once we pick a place and make a reservation the excitement amplifies.

Being the foodies we all are we immediately dive into the restaurant’s online menu. Next thing you know we all start sending and receiving messages like“ohh they have Nutella French Toast!” or “wait, the complimentary breadbasket is actually an assortment of different French pastries!? I can’t wait.” Yeah, saying my friends and I love carbs would be an understatement.

Our most recent brunching endeavor took us to Coppersmith in Southie, Boston. Our first impression of the restaurant was of the beautiful converted warehouse. The inside was completely open with rod iron, wood, and brick accents. They even had a working food truck inside the restaurant which serves globally inspired street food on rotation. We were sat at a gorgeous, long wooden table and began to skim the menu, because lets be honest, we all already knew what we were going to order.

We took the initiative to order two baskets of mini house made doughnuts to go with our drunken hot chocolates. The doughnuts are a MUST order. The basket is filled to the top with both donut holes and mini doughnuts, generously coated in sugar. A side of delicious gooey brown sugar for dipping comes with every basket and it is definitely worth trying.

The Entrees:

Shakshuka

In the most basic terms it was two poached eggs baked into an amazing chili with a side of toasted flatbread and mixed greens salad.

Review: Seriously yummy. The eggs are perfectly poached in a mild red chili baked with feta. Great choice for when you’re brunching and “trying to be healthy.”

Coppersmith Egg Sandwich

This is your classic egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin (for the less adventurous eater). You can dress your classic sandwich with bacon, sausage, avocado or fried green tomato. Served with home fries, duck fat hash browns, fruit or mixed greens.

Review: Dependently delicious. You wont get your socks knocked off with this meal but if your looking for good food you have no doubt you’ll like this would be a safe choice for you.

Nutella French Toast

Classic made French toast with brioche bread and a very generous spreading of Nutella between every slice. To keep the sweetness going your meal is topped with maple syrup and mixed berries.

Review: Yes and Yes! Calling all Nutella lovers – this is your pick! The bread, Nutella, and berries work flawlessly together.

Buckwheat Pancakes

Your guilty pancake pleasure has a healthy twist. For those who have heard of buckwheat but aren’t entirely sure what it is – it’s neither a grain nor related to wheat, making it gluten free, rich in nutrients, helps to reduce food cravings, and can improve diabetes.  With that being said… these pancakes are topped with bruleed bananas, warm maple syrup and your choice of blueberries or chocolate chips.

Review: Your stomach and taste buds will thank you. A decadent spin on a traditional breakfast. You’ll feel good ordering these “healthy” pancakes and enjoy eating them even more.

Bagel + Lox

Feeling European? Try this house-cured lox (smoked salmon), cream cheese bagel combo. It comes with capers, red onions and tomato on the side and your choice of either duck fat has browns, fruit, home fries or mixed greens.

Review: Fresh and filling. The smoked salmon-cream cheese combination is always one for the win and it’s a fabulous way to dress up your everyday bagel. The different sides allow you to change up every bite at your will.

Hangover Breakfast

This could also be known as the “Hungry Man’s Meal” or “The Works” with two eggs, corned beef hash, an English muffin, bacon, and either regular sausage or turkey sausage.

Review: Deliciously filling. Fill up on your protein and get ready for a full day with this meal. You’ll be satisfied, happy and wanting to come back tomorrow.
